A Gazillion Pounds

I went to go see the new movie, "7 Pounds"  starring Will Smith...with a few friends of mine. The roles that Smith plays are increasingly more versatile, and I must say that he has really grown as an actor.  He gets better every time I see him.

The story is about a man who poses as a tax-collector.  He is distraught because he caused an accident (with his cell phone) that killed seven people- including his fiance.  His way of compensating for this is by helping seven people.  I don't want to give too much of the movie away but in spite of the humdrum reviews, the concept and cinematography was beautiful.

We know historically that the real date of Jesus's birthday was not December 25.  Constantine wanted to unite Pagan Rome and Papal Rome so he combined tenets of Christianity and Paganism to minimize conflict during his reign.  Many modern day practices of the Christian church are not biblical but come from this time period.

Okay, enough of the history lesson.  There has been a push to remove Jesus and the sacrifice he made for mankind out of Christmas--by crazy liberals.  I am not in any way shape or form comparing the character portrayed by Will Smith with my Lord and savior Jesus Christ.  However, it's the concept of laying down one's own life for the lives of others that I find most endearing.   In the midst of tears, I thought about how Jesus stepped down from his throne, to sacrifice his life for EVERY human--even the ones that don't accept HIM as their Lord and personal Savior.  Jesus not only died for fallible me , but also died for you, AND those liberals that loathe not only the mention of his name, but abhor the people that perform good deeds because of the example that Jesus set.

Christianity isn't about a superiority complex.  Walking with Christ is waking up everyday and renouncing a right to control things and to live our lives in complete submission to his perfect will (I'm still working on that part).

If in any way shape or form, I could humbly compare the concept of the movie "7 Pounds" to the sacrifice of Jesus, the title of the movie would be "A Gazillion Pounds".  An innumerable, inexplicable, and incomprehensible amount of sacrifice.

Happy Holidays

Just wanted to say thank you. In a world full of people, who won't even wish you a Happy Holiday, it is nice to know that there are still those of us who truly remember the reason for the season, and the awesome gift given. Christmas is about that gift, not the others under the tree, not the glitter or the gold, the economy or politics. Christmas is simply about sharing God's gift to each of us, no matter what we have done~He has given it to us freely.

Thank you for your frankness and candor. May God richly bless you and yours during this holiday season!

I find that most people (conservatives and liberals) focus too much on the idea of xmas its self than the idea behind it, the fact that jesus did die for all of our sins. The gay and the straight, the sinner and the saint. It shows most of all god giving us all a "free will". The right to "choose" whether or not we want to follow him, which actually makes me want to follow him even more. God does not force anything on us, just advises us on the consequences when we choose NOT to follow him. Just like we thank god for waking us up in the morning, we must remember that potential terrorists, murderers and rapists woke up as well. During this holiday season i think we "including myself" should focus on bettering ourselves and our situations and helping the less fortunate. Not wasting our time worrying about what other people are doing. As we christians know, if we take care of ourselves, GOD takes care of the rest.

This is why I do not associate myself with a specific party. I am what I am and vote with whomever agrees with me, whether republican or democratic. Its iggnorant people like this that gives 'parties' a bad name.

Shiana has the right idea, people of all walks of life at times worry or focus about the right things. Whether jesus was born today or yesterday we need to agree he was born to help all mankind. The idea behind christmas is to come together and be with friends and family and to celebrate. God's greatest gift ti mankind was the freedom to choose and sometimes we forget and try to push our own ideas on people. At the end of the day we all will be judge individually and be accountable for the choices that we have made durin our time on this earth. Vanessa stop pointing fingers at liberals and suggesting that they want to take jesus out of christmas, as far as I know they not and even if they wanted to do that, they still wouldnt be able to change how you yourself define what christmas is meant for you..
