But what about the children?

I’m sure most of you have heard about the woman from California who has recently had octuplets.  The outrage in most of the articles I’ve read has to do with the fact that she already has 6 children.  She is rumored to be living with her parents, and conceived the children through in-vitro fertilization from sperm donated to her from a sperm bank.

So I walk in on two “liberal”co-workers complaining about this particular lady being “sick” because she already had six children.   They said that plastic surgeons are required to refer their clients to a psychiatrist after two or three operations-and using this logic--the physician who implanted eight more children into this particular “deranged” woman-should have been more “responsible” because they didn’t want to foot the bill.

Maybe this mother does have a few loose screws.  I don’t know and I kind of don’t care.  It’s the implications of what they were saying that really bothered me.  Thankfully, most welfare recipients don’t fit the aforementioned description.

They asked me what I thought, and I said that the doctor refusing to implant more children into this woman would have been difficult to do legally and ethically.  They thought I was defending the woman for having all those children.  But all I could think about was socialist and communist regimes and their compulsory sterilization laws-and the connection between government hand-outs and government intrusion into our lives.

Wait.

But…but…what about the children?  Isn’t it patriotic to pay higher taxes?  Shouldn’t we 'spread the wealth around'…for the sake of the children?  Isn’t it our duty as hard-working, tax-paying Americans to help those less fortunate than us…even those that choose to have 14 kids with seemingly little financial ability to care for their progeny?

Let me break it down real quick.

Liberal Logic:

We must create programs that “help” families with food, shelter, clothing, and health care-because it’s every American’s duty to care for others; AND it’s the government’s job to facilitate this process through super duper high tax-rates especially on those who can "afford" it.  When it gets too expensive (or when we don’t feel like doing it anymore), we will pass legislation to limit the number of children that people have because they are probably freaks and mentally deranged.

Conservative Logic:

Everyone should be responsible for themselves and their families with very limited government intervention.

Silly me.  I thought all liberals,---excluding Timothy Geitner and Tom Daschle (of course)---would shout for joy for higher tax-rates.

Well put. The liberal controdictions puzzle me. They use one side of a coin to justify their actions, then the other side to condemn the actions of others. The problem is you can't use the same coin to buy two different things.
Anyway, keep up the good work. I enjoy reading your blog.

I like the Duggars. They're the family on 18 Kids and Counting. While I don't agree with the dinosaurs running with Adam & Eve, no dancing and dry wedding receptions....I must admit, they provide for their large family. On the other hand I have a big liberal acquaintance that has 6 foster kids. She gets $1000 per month tax free for each kid plus food stamps, clothing stipends, free dental, free counseling, etc. Of course the Obama sign is still in the front yard. She sits down at the local bar and plays Keno all day. Says she's "Lucky". The kids are frequently absent from school and in the 20 years she's been doing this, one foster child has graduated from high school. Granted the kid was white and special ed.

That was brilliant, I struggled with the idea of writing about this story, you have inspired me Vanessa. you have deftly uncovered the hypocrisy underlying the similar complaints from liberal discussions that I have been privy to.

I know what you mean about liberal contradictions. But I kind of agree with your friends here. The doctor should not have implanted eight embryos. That is dangerous. Also, she clearly has psychological issues and he should have refused to treat her for infertility.
As far as the babies, I am so glad they all survived. They are miracles. And they are going to need some help. I don't care if its from the government. They are innocent and helpless and someone has to look out for them.

Great point. The liberals are the only people alive that can work in a constant state of contradiction without going insane .... unless they already are.

BTW, I am the father of 15 children and 1 on the way with the one wonderful wife that I have been married to for 20 years and we receive ZERO government assistance. She is a prior microbiology major who decided to be a mother and wife and I am a HSE Manager for a Safety Training Company. We are both perfectly sane.

This is not a liberal or conservative issue this is for all of us. First her parents are staying with her because they bought her a house a few years ago and later went into bankruptcies because they couldnt pay for their own. Gotta love ur children even when they sick. Blame the doctor because most doctors agrees it not safe to implant more than 2 embryos before you bring risk to the mother and the expected children. Listen to the facts this lady did this not to get government help but to be famous by selling her story of being a good mother and her parents stated that being a parent was something she says she can be good at. Any particular doctor could refuse a patient due to mental defect, pre-conditions, he could have said anything to her and would have been legally and ethically covered so dont give me that. Sometimes please stop with the liberal logic or conservative logic it has nothing to do with that. The women clearly has problems that being either lib or cons would of made a difference....
