Andre Showell to Obama: What are you going to do to help Black America?
Andre Showell from Black Entertainment Television (BET) wants to know what Obama will do to help Black America, specifically those in NYC where the Black unemployment rate is close to 50%. I'm not an expert. I am just another soul who freed myself from the Democrat's shackles.Maybe the unemployment rate is high in these areas because Blacks refuse to part ways from their unfounded allegiance to Liberal policies. We've been told for the past 40+ years that we don't need faith, strong families (specifically Black FATHERS), and educational choice to help amend the economic disparities in our communities.
What we've been told is that we need more government programs, higher taxes, and wealth redistribution to cure the economic and social maladies we see in 'da hood'. Capitalism is Bad. Socialism is Good.
First and foremost I think we should stop subsidizing negative behavior. When government subsidizes behavior we see more of it. One example of this are parents who push for their children to become labeled with various emotional disorders so they can receive SSI money.
Maybe, just maybe the unemployment rate is so bad in New York because it has the highest per capita tax burden? People, "rich" people, you know, the ones that hire the average guy- have left New York City and will continue to leave NYC as the tax burden becomes more confiscatory. You'd think that they would want to keep the rich-especially because a small minority of NYC residents carry a large majority of the tax burden, right? Governor Patterson doesn't want to keep the rich people because as he so eloquently, and intelligently said if he knew raising taxes would have kicked Rush Limbaugh out, he would have raised taxes a LONG time ago. Gotta love the smart liberals who don't want filthy rich Limbaugh's money to fund more "needed" domestic programs. At least Bloomberg is on the money on this one (literally) and doesn't want to raise taxes.
What are my HUMBLE
suggestions?- We should encourage young people to delay sexual behavior not because we want them to be puritans but because sex increases your chances of having a child -which increases your chances of not completing high school- which increases your chances of living in poverty -which increases your child's chances of ending up in prison for criminal behavior and/or increases his/her chances of repeating the same deleterious cycles generation after generation.
- WE NEED MORE ACCESS TO school choice vouchers
so parents have the CHOICE to take their children out of decrepit school systems. Obama and his liberal brothers and sisters in the House and Senate have shown their enmity for educational choice for poor Black kids in DC. Never mind the fact that vouchers have shown to be very beneficial. - WE NEED lower taxes. Make NYC more business friendly. Don't penalize the good guys that hire the other good guys and provide services for you and I. We lower taxes so more people can lift themselves out of poverty-THROUGH WORK- instead of waiting for the government to throw bread crumbs (I mean "change") at them.
- Oh yeah, one more thing. I used to watch BET. I no longer watch it because there is almost NOTHING educationally, socially, and spiritually substantive about the shows on the network. ESPECIALLY NOT 106 and Park. Other than the syndicated sitcoms, BET is one of the MAIN problems in the Black community. I find it mind boggling that they would have someone from BET ask Obama what he's doing for Black America? Excuse me, but what the hell is BET doing to help Black America...??? I mean, aside from the 'Rap It Up' commercials that say NOTHING about curtailing dangerous sexual habits but say it's imperative to get tested. There is always a young girl probably barely 18, who is scantily clad who runs down the street and hugs her friend like, "Yes I'm negative!!!" The message to young black people, of course, is to use a condom, but have sex with as many people as you want, whenever you want--just make sure you get tested every now and then. Okay, okay, that's another issue. I digress. The larger point is BET is part of the problem, not the solution.

This needs to be covered for our right to freedom has been denied & the Bill of Rights which no just government can refuse, but the President has yet to address his number one duty.

If I were in charge, I would make MTV, VH1, and especially MTV illegal, because all three are practically interchangeable these days. Their artificial, mind-numbing programming rots your brain, and when I have kids all these channels will be blocked. While they are not solely responsible for the ignorance of an entire American generation, they are largely symbolic of it. The average 20-something can name more 'Flavor of Love' contestants than Supreme Court Justices.
The problem is that those three networks wouldn't put out that crap if there wasn't an audience for it. So it's hard to say which came first, the chicken or the egg.
The bigger problem I have with '106 & Park' is that they're just a TRL clone and they water down real rap for the ignorant teenage groupies who think Plies and Soulja Boy = hip-hop. And whatever happened to 'After Dark'?? I miss those vids

out of curiosity, since nothing in the world is perfect, why use such a worldy term as "republican" or "conservative" to define yourself. I would never consider myself a republican or a democrat. Since both parties were crated by man they are both flawed. I love the views you express, but i think they are your own, not "republican".

You are right, parties are not perfect but certain principles never fail. Conservative principles like individual freedom, economic prosperity, and limited government don't fail. The party that promotes these ideas is the party that I am going to identify with.

Your first point by the way, won't work. It would be great if it were possible to get kids to not be so grossly promiscuous, but that's sadly just not the case. Ever tried talking sense into a hormone-ridden teenage boy? It doesn't go so well.
So, how about instead of trying to teach a pig to sing we inform kids about safer sex and make condoms and birth control easily accessible? Lower rates of stds and unwanted pregnancies this way. It will cost so much more taxpayer money to support unwanted/unplanned children of teenage mothers than it would to just dish out some pills.

Are you saying that we shouldn't promote delayed sexual activity? I mean, theoretically we can't control what kids do, but my point was the message that growing souls should be hearing. As for giving kids condoms and talking to them about sex (a.k.a "comprehensive sex education")-- most federal funds (almost 80%) are currently doing just that--a VERY SMALL portion of the funds go to abstinence only programs and that was under Bush. These comprehensive sex education programs haven't been working which is why the teen STD rate is so high and counting... I'm into trying new things and evolving based on the successes or failures of domestic programs--not trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
"Just 'dish' out some pills...?" As a school counselor, who has worked with adolescents and children for the last several years, I can tell you that would be the worst thing to do to a growing soul. Pills, condoms, and other means of birth control don't protect against most sexually transmitted diseases and they DEFINATELY don't protect one from the emotional scars related to dangerous sexual behavior.
By the way...
I'm proud to be Black whether or not there are stupid networks and/or shows with people that look like me on them. Nowadays everyone is depicted negatively on television REGARDLESS of your race. The same qualms I have with BET-I also have with MTV and VH1. The point of my post was to show that most of the programming on BET hurts people that look like me, (especially young blacks) more than it helps us.

CHECKS & BALANCES USED DUE TO ABUSE OF POWER
Jesha Miller has filed a Petition using the Checks & Balances due to abuse of power & to restore Rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights which officials violated under color of law. All Branches are petitioned due to political corruption in all three. All Branches of U.S. government refused to recognize the Plaintiff, Jesha Miller, who petitioned using the Checks & Balances due to abuse of power & help Democracy work by protecting American freedom. This petition was scheduled for November 20, 2009 but all Branches of government refused to Honor the checks & balances which is written into the Constitution to limit the powers of government, and protect the natural rights of the people.
